Cumberland City Council Regents Park Ward

Accessibility statement

Last updated: 21 August 2026

This site is built towards Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, in line with the Australian government's accessibility commitments. Known gaps are listed below and fixed as they are found.

What this means in practice

  • All meaningful images have alt text
  • Colour contrast meets at least 4.5:1 for body text
  • The site is fully keyboard navigable; every interactive element is reachable by Tab
  • A high-contrast two-tone focus indicator on interactive elements
  • A "Skip to main content" link is available at the top of every page
  • Heading structure is hierarchical, with one H1 per page
  • Form fields have proper labels (not placeholder-only)
  • No content auto-plays
  • The site respects "prefers-reduced-motion" settings
  • Body text at a comfortable reading size with generous line height

Language support

This site is being progressively translated to reflect Cumberland's actual community. The header language switcher offers English, Turkish (Türkçe), Chinese (中文), Arabic (العربية), Nepali (नेपाली), and Korean (한국어). Translations will be added in stages, starting with Home, About, and Contact. Arabic content will be displayed right-to-left.

Tested with

  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers (spot-checks)
  • Mobile (iOS Safari, Android Chrome) at 360px viewport and above
  • WAVE and axe automated accessibility scans

Known limitations

  • The Facebook Page Plugin embed is provided by Meta and inherits its accessibility behaviour; we cannot directly control its markup
  • Some third-party content (e.g. linked PDFs from external organisations) may not meet the same standard as this site itself
